Dave, I keep an eye on this in Analytics and IE is by far the top browser for users of my site. I personally use FF simply because of the add-ons that are available.

Yikes Dave! You're right, sorry I missed the explanation at the bottom. That page was tweeted as a new trend, however, I didn't read all the way to the bottom. :)

The saying "picture is worth a thousand words" applies here. I use firefox and would not have bet it was #1 in any category. Perhaps microsoft's grip is slipping!

<a href='#comment-3039' rel="nofollow">@Colleen Lane</a> - Sorry, but these "statistics" are of no real value, because of the source.

The site is for people seeking out alternative browsers. This will skew the data as they point out themselves at the bottom of the table.

"W3Schools is a website for people with an interest for web technologies. These people are more interested in using alternative browsers than the average user. The average user tends to use Internet Explorer, since it comes preinstalled with Windows. Most do not seek out other browsers.

These facts indicate that the browser figures above are not 100% realistic. Other web sites have statistics showing that Internet Explorer is used by at least 80% of the users.

Anyway, our data, collected from W3Schools' log-files, over a five year period, clearly shows the long and medium-term trends."

They did a responsible job by saying what the source of the data pull was and that most general statistics still show that 80% are using IE. This stat pretty much what I see on the business blogs that non-technical users tend to access.

This may be good news to ya Dave, <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp" rel="nofollow">this source</a> has Firefox double that of I.E. And, I consider W3 Schools a reliable source. ;) I read your blog and was tweeted the chart yesterday. Thought I'd pass it along.

Dave: Great site. I have been jammed up by firefox. It would wreak my site. My site was perfect in IE.
Firefox will not see links nested in tables inside a table.
Firefox wants "title", used for image alt tags not "alt"
I can go on and on. You must use "px" sizes in your head style sheet for " h" tags. I could go on and on.
I really am a broker and builder who has developed his own site. I will dig though your blog and learn ideas.
Thanks,
Richard

<a href='#comment-3022' rel="nofollow">@Matt Pellerin</a> - LOL, we do have standards called W3C. But Microsoft being the Big Dog in the park does what is best for them and their products. They have gotten better, but there is still a ways to go.

And since many developers design their sites and products to work with Microsoft it is a browser we all have to be sure our stuff works with even if it grates.

When will we have some standards in the browser community? Every time we seem to get close, Microsoft goes and screws things up again!

FF is by far my choice, but here I sit typing this comment to you Dave - using IE7. Yuck!

But, I am forced to use both on a daily basis just to keep an eye on my sites and other things on the Web. Perhaps that IS THE master plan by Microsoft "If you can't win, than make an inferior product for the masses and the Webmasters will be forced to use us too"?

I just can't get my head around why they don't all render the same... it would be an easy fix after all.
