The last post here at the Lab was about the font legibility on IE 7 vs Firefox. I looked and looked to find a way to make them as bold and easy to read on FF as on IE 7 to no avail.
But now I have a solution and you can get this same legibility not only on FF but on EVERYTHING you read on your Windows computer.

This PowerToy lets you use ClearType technology to make it easier to read text on your screen, and installs in the Control Panel for easy access.
For me this was a great find. I downloaded this and installed it. Went directly into FF and “BANG” the same look and feel in FF as in IE 7. Then I dropped the browser window and there was my desktop and all of my application fonts were the same legibility as I had in IE 7.
I’ve lived with IE 7 for a week now. I would much rather use FF. It knows when I’m logged in to a site and doesn’t ask me to login a dozen times when I’m already logged in.
Ex. I’m logged into my google account, FF knows when I go to gmail. I’m logged in, when I go to google notebook, I’m logged in. But IE 7 asks for a log in every step of the way.
Bonus info P margin 40 vs Blockquote
I also find the RTE in Wordpress functions a little differently (better) in FF than in IE.
In the RTE when I bring in a graphic, I don’t set the location. I’ve noticed when I do this there is no text beside the image. Once the image is in the post I click on it and select right or left. It goes there in FF and the text wraps beside the image. Not so in IE 7. I have to go to the code window and insert align=”right” if I want text to wrap. In FF no such work is necessary.
One more thing I’ve noticed in both of these browsers with the latest version of Wordpress. A block quote is no longer a block quote in code from the RTE window. It puts in a paragraph margin 40 instead of a blockquote. If you want blockquote code you have to go to the code editor and put it in yourself. Call me old fashioned but I want a blockquote endblockquote not a paragraph margin 40 setting.
Ah, the eyes are getting a break. As much as they view this screen, they need it.

The new apps seem to be of less bright color content and smaller font any reason for this?

There could be a lot of reasons. Your monitor settings what resolution you are set at, what font size you have chosen can all have an effect on it.
It should effect the fonts only, they should appear bolder and easier to read.
If not try tweaking your settings. I have my scree res set to 1280 x 1024 Font size Large running in windows classic mode (it takes up less memory and i want every bit I can get for my applications not windows)

I’ve decided to give IE7 another shot - hopefully I am more satisfied this go around. If not, FF may get a shot…
